Salado is a small village between Austin and Waco along I-35, anchored by the spring-fed Salado Creek and one of the most well-preserved small-town main streets in Texas. The historic Stagecoach Inn, restored 19th-century buildings, art galleries, boutique shops, and locally-owned restaurants make Salado feel like a deliberate place rather than an accidental one.

Salado College, founded in 1860 as one of the first colleges in Texas, gave the area early importance. Today, the community is known for its arts scene, the Salado Sculpture Garden, the Tablerock Festival of Salado (which produces the annual Saturday afternoon Salado Sculpture Garden picnics), and a deeply protective sense of its own character.
